Itgel Returns to the States, Seeks Intern

Western View

After nearly five months of on-site work in Mongolia, Itgel’s 2006 field season wrapped up on November 9th. But while the majority of our team members are now scattered across the globe, we are pleased to have our Program Manager, Naraa, on the ground in Mongolia keeping Itgel’s exciting work moving forward year round. Here in the U.S., Itgel’s headquarters in Boulder, Colorado, is now abuzz with fundraising, PR, and project preparation activities for 2007. Scheduled activities over the winter include educational lectures and PR events, grant writing, and collaborations with visitors’ center partners on curriculum development. If you’re interested in learning about these and other vital functions of non-profit operations, and have between 3-10 hours per week to intern with Itgel, we’d love to hear from you. Academic credit may be available for students.

To thank you for sharing the contact information of three new prospective donors with us, we’ll send you a complimentary CD of enchanting Mongolian music.

Can’t make it to Mongolia? How about New York City?

The Rubin Museum of Art in New York City has extended a special invitation to all friends of The Itgel Foundation to come and experience their new exhibit “Mongolia: Beyond Chinggis Khan,” and the series of events that will supplement this exhibit.

Mongolia: Beyond Chinggis Khan

Veterinarians Without Borders grant recipient writes about her experience working with Itgel

After her second successful year working with Itgel in Mongolia, research scientist Vicki Gerwing shared her story in a newsletter blurb featured on the Veterinarians Without Borders (VWB) website. VWB awarded Vicki a travel grant to support her participation in Itgel’s scientific endeavors in Mongolia. This helped Vicki continue her leading role in Itgel’s laboratory research activities, pioneering our work in the fields of brucella detection utilizing PCR technology, herd genetic profiling, and human diagnostic services. Fundraising program means new clothes for friends of Itgel

Of the many items Itgel team members have brought back from Mongolia, none have generated more comments, compliments, and questions than traditional Mongolian hoorem jackets. So, at the request of several friends, Itgel launched a fundraising program offering participants the chance to order fully customized jackets, with the bulk of proceeds going directly to Itgel’s project costs. The program net more than $2,000 in 2006, and helped support local artisans in Mongolia’s capital city, Ulaanbaatar. Many of the orderees gathered for a photograph (below) upon receiving their garments last month.

For more information on how you can order your one-of-a-kind hoorem jacket and support Itgel, visit www.itgel.org and click “donate”
